Discover the region

In the region - Where to go...

The Les Iscles Lake Campground is the ideal starting point for exploring and enjoying the different villages, landscapes and breathtaking panoramas to be found in the southern Alps. The region has what it takes to satisfy both athletes and vacationers. It is possible to discover the region by kayak, road or mountain bike and on foot with numerous hikes.

Whitewater sports

In the Hautes-Alpes, the water is quite a story! The Durance river runs from north to south and is a source of both inspiration and adrenaline… it is the life’s blood of the whole department. With more than 2,000 km of protected and well preserved rivers (the fish are living proof!), the water is an ideal playground in all seasons.

The adventure starts with a raft… to be able to have fun in the eddies or glide gently down with the current, taking in the lovely scenery. But everything comes to fruition with the kayak… the sensation, the fun and the sport. So take the plunge! Welcome to the Hautes-Alpes

The Durance is the ideal river to begin practicing whitewater sports! There are few rocks, moderate waves as well as the famous Rabioux rapids.

The mythical wave of the Hautes-Alpes from the first tricks and routes in the 70s to the latest and craziest aerial acrobatics. Everything that has been invented in recent years in freestyle kayaking has been attempted and perfected on this wave.

There is easy access from the campground to all the internationally renowned rivers in the region: the Guil, the Ubaye, the Gyr, the Gyron, the Guisane etc…

It is easy to leave or return to the campground by kayak. A departure / arrival area is located on the banks of the Durance just at the entrance to the campground!

Here are some of our suggestions for activities near the campground:

  • The Marmot Trail
  • Visit the Mont Dauphin Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with permanent exhibitions, a cheese cellar, restaurants and artisans.

Road biking

Located on the Grandes Alpes Route, the campground is at the foot of several mythical passes: the Col d’Izoard, the Col Agnel, the Vars pass and the Galibier pass. For a few days during the summer, these passes are even reserved for cycling.

By mountain bike, many circuits are marked in the area around the campground. Guides are available to help you get the most out of your ride. For bicycle tourists or mountain bike enthusiasts, the Les Iscles Lake Campground is located on the marked greenway cycle route.

On horseback or on foot, the hiking possibilities are nearly endless! One can start from the campground directly… or take advantage of the well known national parks in the region such as the Parc du Queyras or the Parc des Ecrins.

Thrill seekers and climbers can practice on nearby climbing routs, via ferrata. There are facilities for paragliding and gliding nearby.

Italy is also nearby and makes for a beautiful day trip.

To take full advantage for your vacation, there is extensive tourist documentation at the campground reception.
